Room boy attempts to rape doctor, arrested
Hyderabad: A room boy allegedly attempted to rape a 24-year-old lady doctor from Karnataka at a private guest house on Jubilee Hills Road Number 45 in the early hours of Saturday. The woman screamed, and this alerted other employees of the guest house. This forced the attacker to run away.
The woman had forgotten to lock the door of her room when she went to sleep at night. Paramanand Mandal, a native of Odisha, saw the open door and entered the room at around 2.45 am.
“She woke up hearing a sound and found a person on her left side. As she woke up, he tried to hold her down forcefully and started molesting her. She resisted the attempt, shouting for help and pushed him away,” said West Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana.
The scuffle between the two continued for some five minutes and was heard by other employees of the guest house who gathered outside. Seeing this, Mandal ran out of the room.
“Other employees and a guard at the reception failed to catch him, as he ran out of the guest house. The woman dialled 100, and our patrolling team caught Mandal within a few hours,” said the police official.
According to the police, the woman came to Hyderabad to prepare for the post-graduate medical entrance examination, and had been staying at the guest house since June 1.
“Her friends had been coming over for combined studies since the last few days. Mandal, who entered her room a few times as part of his job, planned to exploit the situation after he noticed that her friends had left the room,” said a police officer.
Paramanand Mandal is a native of Rerangu-puram village in Berhampur district, and has been working at the guest house since a year.
The Jubilee Hills police has booked a case against him for attempt to rape under Section 376, 511 and other Sections, and are investigating.
