We have mechanism to fight rape: India to United Nations
New Delhi: Commenting on the condemnation by the United nations of the brutal gangrape and murder of two teenaged girls in Badaun, India has said that it never claimed to be a “perfect society” and that it has an internal self-corrective mechanism in place to deal with such acts.
External affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin when asked to comment on the UN remarks said the incident had ‘shocked’ both the government and the nation and action was being taken against the accused.
“Let me start by saying that it is not India’s case that we are a perfect society. However, it is our view that as a society we have internal self-correction mechanism in place,” he said.
He further said, “The incident has shocked both the government and the nation. Our understanding is that the perpetrators will face full force of the law.”
