Conspiracy allegations form fault-lines in Kollam District Congress Committee
Kollam: The group war in Kollam DCC has taken a concrete form with a section of ‘A’ and ‘I’ group leaders joining hands against DCC president Prathapavarma Thampan. The leaders from both the groups allege that the president had conspired against the UDF candidate in Kollam.
The group leaders also marked their protest against Thampan’s decision to give the Kollam Parliament seat to the RSP, which was once the monopoly of the Congress party, sources said.
Denying the allegations, Thampan said he had strived hard for the victory of Congress candidates across the district. “My Vikasana Sandesa Yatra helped the candidates in winning. And the Congress high command praised my efforts. We have started convening assembly committee meetings every month. These meetings used to be held only once or twice in a year. Those who are jealous of my success are conspiring against me”, said Thampan.
However, the Congress party had appointed M.M.Hassan to look into the matter and the factions are waiting for stringent action against the DCC president, hoping that he will be removed from his post. Thampan had also criticised Hassan by alleging that the ace Congress leader had wrested the Chirayinkeezhu Assembly seat from him in the 1998 elections.
