AISMK volunteers go on fast; demand allowing of ‘Jallikattu’
SC banned using bulls for jallikattu events, bullock-cart races across India on May 7
Madurai: Protesting the Supreme Court ban on Jallikattu (taming the bull), hundreds of volunteers of All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi, led by its founder President, R Sarathkumar went on a one day fast at nearby Pazhanganatham, demanding that it be allowed.
The actor-turned-politician said "Jallikkattu" was being held for thousands of years and expressed readiness to prolong the fast for two weeks for the cause of the sport.
He thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa for filing a review petition in the Supreme Court over its order.
Legislators from Puthiya Tamizhagam and Forward Bloc also took part in the fast.
