Google could dominate the global Internet market
In this digital world, every second person you encounter relies on the Internet and its available services, mostly on their handhelds or personal/office computers. However, even today, many countries are still served by a single ISP— that is often run by the government— and is generally expensive.
On the other hand, Google provides fibre-to-the-home service in parts of the United States. With speeds of up to 100Mbps, Google claims its fibre service to be 100 times faster than the regular Internet broadband.
According to MIT technology review, Google presently has four satellites in the orbit and plans to launch another four next month. Forbes too recently reported that Google Inc plans to spend $1 billion on the launch of 180 satellites to provide Internet access to the under-served regions arounds the globe.
It is a huge investment and risk that Google has to take right now, but once Google increases its addressable market size and establishes its services worldwide, internet services may be available for much reasonable prices as compared to what we pay right now. And the lower prices and faster Internet by Google fibre will dominate the global Internet market, threatening the other available service providers.
