Telangana missing in virtual world
Hyderabad: Telangana has been formed and the state’s official website is up and running. But that’s about it when it comes to the virtual world.
Many Telangana district websites still have the Andhra Pradesh state emblem, while some split departments don’t even have websites of their own. An exception is the transport department.
On the other side of the boundary, many of the websites belonging to Andhra departments have been temporarily shut down or have made no changes.
The new states don’t seem to have arrived in the virtual world either. Social networking website, Facebook, too has not updated the city of Hyderabad as being in Telangana.
Hyderabad, Telangana showed up no results in the “Current city” field in Facebook while still showing Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
After Telangana was created as a separate state, the servers of all government departments had to split up.
The transport department, which relies heavily on servers to maintain databases of vehicles and licences, designed its own website. Most others are maintained by the National Informatics Centre and these have yet to change.
Websites of districts in Telangana still say ‘Government of Andhra Pradesh’ and have the old emblem.
Andhra Pradesh’s official website hasn’t seen any changes either. Some websites have been temporarily shut down. There is no information on when the changes will be made.
The notification effecting changes in vehicle registration numbers is also yet to be issued by the Centre.
The erstwhile state government had proposed continuing with the current district RTO codes while only changing the state code.
