Solar plant to lessen Secunderabad Cantonment Board load
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board, in order to get rid of the huge financial burden towards electricity consumption charges that works out to more than a crore per month, will install a grid interactive solar power plant of 1 MW capacity in Secunderabad area.
Officials state that 30 per cent subsidy on the project cost is available from the new and renewable energy ministry and the balance would be met by the SCB. No extra charges will be levied on the citizens falling under SCB. The project will help in reducing the power bills of street lights, submersible pump sets, and water pumping station in the cantonment area.
As per the SCB plans, the interactive solar power plant will be installed at Balamrai near Paradise, and Gunrock area in Karkhana at a total cost of Rs 7 crore. The construction will begin from August 1 making the SCB first among the 62 existing cantonments in the country to have a dedicated solar power plant generating energy of its own.
Balamrai has been okayed for the project as 1.5 acres of land is available, and there are no trees or tall buildings in the area.
