New Act to protect forests in Telangana
Hyderabad: The state government will bring in a new Act to protect the forests. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who reviewed forest-related issues with Jogu Ramanna, the forest minister, and senior officials of the department, decided to bring in a new Act to protect forest lands and wealth.
“We are planning to bring in a new law to protect forest lands. Adilabad has 43 per cent of forest land and there is a need to protect it,” Mr Ramanna said after the meeting. He asked forest department to involve Girijans in social forestry and protection of forest lands.
“The government will provide new vehicles and sufficient arms to forest guards to protect the forest wealth,” he added. The Chief Minister also reviewed the functioning of the agriculture department with agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and senior officials. Mr Rao asked the officials to ensure that seeds and other inputs are available to the farmers for the ensuing Kharif season.
