Modi effect: Joint secretaries to clear files in three weeks

Narendra Modi also asks for review of all proposals

New Delhi: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepping on the gas, the secretaries to the government swung into action on Thursday and asked their joint secretaries and other officers to clear pending files in all departments in three weeks.

The Prime Minister has also asked for a review of all the recommendations of parliamentary committees and to identify proposals that can be implemented within two to three weeks.

Sources said that the PM had asked food minister Ram Vilas Paswan to determine which of the recommendations of the GoM headed by former agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on sugar can be implemented immediately. He also asked agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh for a complete overhaul of the schemes and to focus on small and marginal farmers.

At his meeting on Wednesday with 77 secretaries, Mr Modi urged them to identify 10 laws that are “redundant” and “archaic” and initiate moves for their repeal.
