Mumbai: For the first film she produced — Love Breakups Zindagi — Dia Mirza cast herself as the leading lady. Not so with Bobby Jasoos, for which she managed to convince Vidya Balan to take up the part.
“I was asked why I didn’t cast myself in the film,” Dia admitted to us in a recent chat. “But then I didn’t become a producer because I wanted to extend my innings as an actor. As a producer, I have to cast only that one person who will do complete justice to the story. And in the case of Bobby Jasoos, that person was Vidya.”
Dia adds that Vidya has enacted the part with so much conviction, that she has become the character, and also, when the film releases, every B-town actress will wish that “they had done this film instead”. “Vidya was always our first choice,” Dia asserts. “It was a moment of great pride and joy for us, since Vidya is so selective about her films. To have her in our film is nothing short of a dream come true.”
