Another case of cyber crime busted in Cyberabad

Accused created fake profiles of the victim on social media and demanded Rs 1 lakh to delete them

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Cyber Crime police nabbed a crook for hacking mails, creating fake Facebook profiles and sending abusive and defamatory messages to his former colleague, a woman.

He created her fake account, sent out add requests to her friends. Further, using various numbers, he sent abusive and threatening messages.

He even demanded Rs 1 lakh for deleting the account. A trap was laid and he was nabbed when he came to collect the money. The accused, Nagaboina Naveen Babu, is a former employee of Halcrow Consulting India Private Limited.

According to the Cyber Crime officials, the victim lodged a complaint at Madhapur police station, stating that for two months she has been receiving calls and abusive messages on her phone from unknown numbers.

Further, her gmail account had been hacked and personal details changed. He also sent abusive emails to the email addresses present in her email account.

“The accused also created a fake Facebook profile in the complainant’s name, posted her picture and sent add requests to her friends and relatives. Her colleagues also received text messages from the accused late in the nights. He further demanded Rs 1 lakh to delete the profile,” said a senior official.

In her complaint, the victim said she suspected Naveen Babu, an ex-employee of her company. A case was registered and during the course of investigation, Naveen Babu’s role was established through the Call Detail Records from Mobile service providers and IP logs from Facebook.

Under the pretext of payment of the demanded amount, the police nabbed the accused in Madhapur when he came to collect it. During interrogation, he confessed and said he did it to extort money.
