Graphic India has launched an app with a selection of animated comics

Digital entertainment company Graphic India, has launched an app that brings a selection of animated comics to Windows phones. The company hopes to develop Indian talent to create its own comic book superheroes

Says Sharad Devarajan, Co-Founder and CEO of Graphic India: “We believe the next Steven Spielberg, JK Rowling, Stan Lee or Miyazaki exists somewhere in India - ready to change the world through their stories. The Graphic India app will give a platform to the amazing creativity of India allowing us to share our Indian stories with audiences around the world.”

Adds Vineet Durani, Director, Windows Phone Business Group, Microsoft India, said, “Animation is a billion dollar industry in India and a growing number of the country’s youth are taking an interest in Indian animation characters. Therefore, we believe that the Graphic India app is a great new addition to our offerings. It offers a new dimension to the fast-growing Windows Phone Store and showcases some great Indian talent. The comics now available include:

  • Lee’s “Chakra The Invincible” featuring the first Indian superhero from the legendary co-creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, Hulk and The Avengers.
  • “18 Days” a reinvention of the Mahabharata created by superstar Batman writer, Grant Morrison
  • “Sholay: Gabbar” a 'prequel' story of the infamous villain in Indian cinema
  • “Ramayan 3392AD”, a futuristic epic inspired by the classic Ramayana myth and currently being developed as a live-action film in Hollywood
  • “Krrish: Menace of the Monkey Men” featuring an story of India’s iconic film character
  • “Shekhar Kapur’s DEVI” the story of an immortal goddess reincarnated as a young woman in modern India, created from the acclaimed filmmaker Mr. India

The app can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Store

Founded by media entrepreneurs Sharad Devarajan, Gotham Chopra and Suresh Seetharaman, Graphic India is owned by U.S. comic book Company, Liquid Comics and CA Media LP, the Asian investment arm of The Chernin Group, LLC (TCG).
