Seven killed in roof collapse in Kadapa district

The victims were attending the funeral of a villager who had died in a road mishap

Kadapa: Seven people, including a 7-year-old girl, were killed and 28 others suffered injuries when the roof of an old building collapsed on Tuesday at Nawabpeta village in Kadapa district. Of the 28 who were injured, five suffered serious injuries and had to be shifted to Kurnool. Their condition is serious.

Incidentally, the victims were attending the funeral of a villager who had died in a road mishap.

About 35 people had climbed to the top of an old building to view the funeral proceedings. However, continuous rains had weakened the roof of the building and it collapsed. R. Venkataratnam, 65, S. Peddakka, 28, and her 7-year-old daughter S. Sabitha died on the spot. Others attending the funeral started rescue operations and shifted the injured to Jammalamadugu hospital.

D. Gurramma, 50, S.Sanjeevamma, 69, Narasi Maramma, 58, and T. Ramanjulamma, 41, died on the way to the hospital.
