ITDA identifies land for proposed tribal varsity in Seemandhra

500-600 acres of land is located at Bheempalli area in the district

Rajahmundry: Land for setting up of a tribal university in residuary Andhra Pradesh has been identified by the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), which was entrusted with the task, in East Godavari district, an official said on Wednesday.

The land admeasuring 500-600 acres is located at Bheempalli area in the district.

The proposed university will cater mainly to tribal education.

"We have identified the land for the proposed tribal university as part of the AP Reorganisation bill 2014 and are sending details to the government today," Project Officer, ITDA, Rampachodavaram, Gandham Chandrudu told PTI.

He said that Rajahmundry airport is 35 kms away from the project site and railway and bus stands are within 45 kms.

"One can reach the site easily from the airport, railway station and bus stand. Once the government accepts the proposal, we take all developmental works in this area," Chandurudu said.

He said that identification of land for setting up of central universities for Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh was in accordance with the bifurcation procedure.

The establishment of the university was one of the commitments made by the erstwhile UPA government towards Seemandhra, while implementing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
