Raipur: The Chhattisgarh police on Tuesday cracked a suicide case exposing the treachery by a man who fled the spot after his lady love committed suicide as per their ‘death pact’.
The girl’s body was found hanging on a tree in the village of Ranichar in Chhattisgarh’s Balod district on Monday evening.
The couple — Ravikant Kashyap and Namtrata (name changed) — had decided to commit suicide together after their parents refused to give consent to their relationship.
“As per the death pact, the couple decided to hang themselves to death together. They tied a nylon rope in a tree on the outskirt of the village, building nooses on its two ends. Ravikant helped Namrata tie the noose around her neck. She hanged herself by jumping off the tree. The sight of Namrata’s death made Ravikant to flee the spot,” police said.
Ravikant has confessed about his role and has been arrested.
