Cop injured in bus mishap, dies on his way to hospital
Hyderabad: A senior police official of Vijayawada was killed and seven others were injured in an RTC bus mishap in Nalgonda district on Tuesday. The Garuda bus was going to Vijayawada from Hyderabad when it overturned at Dhaduvai village. The 58-year-old police officer, N. Hariprasad, SP (communications), succumbed on way to a hospital at Kothad. Nalgonda police officials said that after the mishap, an injured Hariprasad got out of the bus himself, walked to the road, stopped a car, and went to the hospital. Nine others were also injured in the incident, and three of them are critical.
“He stopped a car and asked the people in it to take him to a hospital. However, he died before he could reach the hospital. He had undergone two heart surgeries. Some heavy object had hit his chest in the accident,” said DSP G. Sravan Kumar. Police said the bus driver was trying to overtake a truck when the mishap occurred. “When the bus hit the lorry, the bus driver turned to the right and his vehicle hit some buffaloes. One animal went under the bus and the driver lost his balance. The vehicle fell into a field,” said the DSP. Hariprasad, who was about to retire on July 30, had come to Hyderabad on duty and had visited his son.
On Monday night, after 11 pm, Hariprasad’s son dropped him at the Mahatma Gandhi bus station. “Instead of a car, he chose to travel by bus as he felt it would be more comfortable,” said DSP Sravan Kumar. Nalgonda police booked a case against the bus driver for causing death due to negligence.
