Chennai: After Kadal, much was expected of star kid Gautham Karthik, but the youngster flattered to deceive in his second outing, Yennamo Yedho, that turned out to be a damp squib.
However, Gautham is all set to bounce back with Aishwarya Dhanush’s next, Vai Raja Vai that looks to be a gambling/ heist thriller flick with a riveting ensemble cast.
“It’s not a complete gambling film, but yes, it is about a happy-go-lucky guy who’s dragged into the seedy underworld and how he survives. We are actually in Goa now, shooting for the final portion of the film as it involves time spent inside casinos, by the poker tables, etc. Exciting stuff,” he says.
The initial teasers give the film a very Vegas-inspired vibe, what with its huge star cast, with the likes of Priya Anand, Taapsee Pannu, Vivek, Daniel Balaji and so on, all of whom Gautham seems to be in awe of.
“All these people are actors whose huge fan I am; being new to the industry, it is really unnerving to be working with them! Vivek sir, especially, plays quite a shocking role in the film, one that is totally unexpected.”
While he is happy with working under a woman director for the first time, Gautham’s friendship with Priya Anand should ensure a crackling chemistry on-screen.
“Priya and I have become really good friends. She’s also really helpful, super fun and sociable — in fact, she likes kids so much that she keeps playing with them on set. It’s an absolute pleasure to be her co-star,” he says.
