I don't have an ideal woman: Sidharth Shukla

Siddharth Shukla, who’s getting ready for the release of his debut film, on whether or not to quit TV
Mumbai: The hunky Sidharth Shukla, who will soon be seen making the leap from small screen to Bollywood in Karan Johar’s Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, continues to entertain as Shiv in Balika Vadhu. At the trailer launch of the film, co-star and leading man of the film Varun Dhawan admitted that Sidharth has a bigger fan base than him. When asked about it, Sidharth says, “That was kind of him, but the fact is TV has a wider reach. We are at people’s homes everyday knocking on their doors.” On a lighter note, he adds, “Films have stars, while we are commoners, always available to the audience.”
Sidharth, who plays a father in his show, admits that he was a bit apprehensive about such a role hampering his film prospects. “I was a bit apprehensive but then I realised it is all for a good cause. The track dealt with adoption and I know someone who adopted a child after watching our show. Even if it is just one person, I’m glad we could make a difference to somebody’s life.”
There was also some buzz about Sidharth not getting along well with co-actor Toral Rasputra. And then it was heard that they mended fences recently. “I heard this and it certainly makes for good gossip but that’s about it. I sleep early and I don’t party. I wake up at 5.30 and head to the gym and reach the sets by 8.30. So there is nothing to write about me. But people have to say something, so they make up some gossip. It’s okay I guess.”
Considering how most actors find it tedious to manage just their daily shows, one wonders how Siddharth found time to accommodate a film. “It was quite a task but luckily the channel was understanding, so I managed. It being my debut film, I had to be explained a couple of things quite a few times. But the team was young and we could speak our mind without anyone feeling offended.”
While a lot of actors choose to quit television after switching to films, Sidharth has still not made up his mind about this. He says, “It’s too soon to decide. My first film hasn’t even released yet. I’m testing the waters. I’d rather wait and see how the audience reacts to my performance than plan a career move in advance.” Sidharth is not known to be the best dancer but he contested in the last season of dance reality show Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa, where Karan Johar happened to spot him. Later he offered him a role in his film.
Sidharth says participating in the show was one of best decisions he has ever taken. “As a model, only a limited number of people knew about me. On television also your audience is limited to a specific show. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa has a wider viewership and so people took notice of me. I met some wonderful people. The show gave me my first film. And now that the trailer has released, my family and friends are very excited by the wonderful turn my career has taken. Even long lost friends have got in touch to congratulate me.”
Off-screen, Sidharth is single and says that he has no definition of an ideal woman in mind. He says, “I don’t think it makes sense to set high goals about how my ideal woman should be. It is like calling for trouble. That would make one close-minded and not open to meeting different kinds of people. It is not something I believe in.”
