What's new about Apple iOS 8 ?

Here are some features that Apple did not mention at the WWDC about iOS 8

Taiwan: Apple, on June 2, unveiled the new iOS 8 alongside the OS X Yosemite at WWDC 2014. However, famous leakster @evleaks reported that TechSmartt has dug out some features that Apple did not reveal in the preview. Other than the ones mentioned in the preview, there are a number of other features that iOS 8 has introduced.

The camera app in the iOS 8 comes with an option of a self-timer of 3 seconds and 10 seconds; you no more have to download apps especially for self-timers now. Not just that, the camera also has a time-lapse mode in the new operating system, which is quite a good feature for the photography enthusiasts.

Also, in the global safari, you can now request for desktop websites, which essentially means you can access the desktop version of a website by tapping on the option that you see whenever you open safari which says ‘request for desktop site’.

Another feature that they have introduced is the stats on the percentage of battery every application on your phone consumes. You can access it by going to the usage option in settings and if you choose the battery usage option, a detailed list of the battery consumption by each app on your phone rolls down.

This one’s a tiny addition, but the emoticon option no more is a globe icon, like other Android keypads, it now has a smiley icon for emojis.

There is another really good addition in iOS 8 where you can choose to keep or erase your messages, that users don’t realise take a lot of memory. You can choose to either keep them forever or you could choose to erase them after 30 days or a year. You can apply this by going to the Messages option in Settings, down below is an option of store messages where you get the option of keeping or trashing your messages.

Other than these, the weather app has been refreshed in iOS 8, with details like humidity, wind speed and all right there, and also it shows the weather forecast for the more than a week unlike in iOS 7.

Also, instead of dropping down the notification palette from the top for quick replies, there’s another way for quick reply. You can go to Notifications option in the Settings and update your Alert style to ‘alert’, which will allow a user to reply from notification pop up itself.

Another feature that was talked about at the unveiling but wasn’t demonstrated was the feature of activating siri by just calling out ‘hello siri’. Other than this Shazam has now been incorporated in the Siri itself, which allows a user to recognize music and media playing around, and the songs are directly linked to the iTunes.

In addition to all these feature, iOS 8 now comes with a bug reporter app installed on the phone where in you can give feedbacks on bugs and fixes directly to Apple.

Looks like, iOS 8 has really made its user’s life easier by providing a lot of features for which earlier you were downloading different apps, and they were obviously sitting there in your phone taking a lot of battery and memory space.
