Akhilesh Yadav orders no power cuts for Varanasi now
Lucknow: The people of Varanasi will now enjoy the luxury of belonging to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency. UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, on Monday, issued orders saying that Varanasi would remain free from power cuts.
The CM directed, Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Varanasi. Mr Yadav made the announcement after talking to BJP MLA from Varanasi, Shyam Dev Roychoudhury, who has been on hunger strike since May 27 to protest against power cuts in the city.
Interestingly, prior to voting, Varanasi and Azamgarh were getting 22 hours of power supply. But after the polls were over Azamgarh from where Mulayam Singh Yadav got elected, continued to get uninterrupted power supply, Varanasi which elected Mr Modi, was subjected to frequent power cuts.
