New Delhi: Referring to his initiative of inviting the Saarc leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it was a means to “give out a message to the world”. he said, “They are still talking about it what happened, how it happened. This shows how much results a right decision taken at the right time can bring.”
Recalling his days spent at the party office, Mr Modi told BJP workers how he had “set chairs in this office” when Atal Behari Vajpayee had become Prime Minister. The PM said that he had never imagined he would “receive such an honour” at a place which is “an inspirational seat for all workers”.
Mr Modi said his government has an added responsibility to live up to public expectations as people had been disillusioned with the Congress for long and even the “experiment” with alternatives had not helped.
“The clear-cut mandate that the BJP got in the Lok Sabha polls would not have been possible had there been no undercurrent and common thought process from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” he said.
He said while the UK Labour Party’s victory under Tony Blair and Barack Obama’s first election as US President were discussed and documented, the Indian elections too should be documented and researched. Mr Modi said when he told world leaders who called to congratulate him that 550 million people had voted, they were left amazed.
