Telangana formation day: Twitterati raise a toast
Hyderabad: Jubilation and exultation was widespread in Telangana on the eve of the state’s official formation on Sunday and the social media was no exception. Telangana has been trending for the last few days on Twitter and Sunday saw the most congratulatory Tweets pour in.
IAS officer Mr G. Veerapandian, posted in Srikakulam, tweeted a picture capturing the mood in the to-be-formed state, “Big celebrations in Telangana on its birth as the 29th state of India.”
The final of the IPL coinciding with the eve of the formation of the new state and many called it a “double dhamaka” with two reasons to rejoice. “Celebrations on cloud nine dis tonight #iplfinal #telangana state formation (sic),” Mr Santosh Reddy Tweeted.
“If there’s any place to be in Hyderabad, it has to be Necklace Road. The atmosphere is full of energy and ‘Jai Telangana’ chants in the air,” Mr Navin posted on Twitter, summing up the mood in Hyderabad.
Several people also posted congratulatory messages as a six-decade old dream was achieved. “Sleep in Andhra Pradesh and wake up in #Telangana !!! Isn’t this the moment thousands have waited for?” another user, Mr Mani, posted.
Many people were, however, upset with the spate of power outages in Hyderabad on the eve of Telangana formation. Dr Mozammil Shafi Tweeted, “Why so much power cut on the eve of Telangana formation and IPL final? Irritating.” Sush, Tweeted, “Looks like we're celebrating Telangana with the seventh power cut of the day :l #JaiTelangana”
Some people from residuary Andhra were not too amused. Kiran Kumar Kumili tweeted, “Seemandhrites in grief and pain while Telangana celebrates its Formation Day. RIP United Andhra.” Mr Dinesh Chowdhary posted, “Tomorrow Telangana going to be a new state. Not excited, Not SAD.”
