Formation Day: Dhoom Dham rings in Telangana
Hyderabad: A dazzling display of fireworks along with colourful illuminations and “Jai Telangana” slogans ushered in the new Telangana state on Sunday night.
A sea of people from the city and other Telangana districts gathered at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road and Tank Bund to celebrate the birth of the state. The city virtually turned pink with TRS flags, banners and hoardings covering all major junctions and roads.
It was a visual treat as special fireworks showered “flower rain” and spread fragrance, much to the amusement of spectators. Three truckloads of fireworks and crackers were exclusively brought from Mumbai and Varanasi for the purpose.
The Telangana state formation celebrations, which began at 8 pm at Necklace Road and Tank Bund, reached a fever pitch by midnight and spilled over to the next day as young and old alike, including women, danced with gay abandon, welcoming the new state.
The euphoria was much higher than New Year celebrations at Necklace Road and Tank Bund.
Tank Bund and Necklace Road, which had witnessed the “Million March” and “Saagara Haaram” respectively earlier for the creation of the Telangana state, offered a spectacular and festive extravaganza as people in large numbers from across the state descended to celebrate the historic occasion.
