Congress no to Maharashtra Cabinet expansion

Prithviraj Chavan failed to get a nod from the party high command in Delhi

Mumbai: The Maharahstra government on Sunday faced a major embarrassment over the Cabinet expansion from Congress’ side, as chief minister Prithviraj Chavan failed to get a nod from the party high command in Delhi.

The message of the oath ceremony of three ministers of the party was already sent out by the CMO, before seeking final permission from the top leaders in Delhi.

The Chief Minister and state Congress president Manikrao Thakre who were in Delhi for a few days convincing leaders for the expansion did not get an appointment from Congress president Sonia Gandhi till late evening on Sunday, a senior leader from Congress said.

“There was no approval for the Cabinet expansion, as Mrs Gandhi did not meet the Chief Minister and Mr Thakre. Let’s hope that the Chief Minister gets the nod to expand the Cabinet soon,” the senior Congress leader said.

There are three posts vacant in the Congress quota that need to be filled.
