Marijuana mafia busted: Three arrested
Kochi: Ernakulam central police on Sunday busted a gang that had been smuggling ganja from Idukkiand traded it in the city regions. Three people were arrested and 400 grams of ganja was seized from the gang, the police said. The arrested were identified as Samson (38) of Ambalakkavala near Kattappana in Idukki, Jismon (21) of Kochupalli near Udayamperoor and Sharukh (21) of Thayikkattukara near Aluva.
According to Y. Nizamuddeen, the circle inspector who busted the gang, the culprits used to buy ganja from top-notch weed cultivators in Idukki district and sell it among students and drivers in Kochi.
“Samson, a contract employee of a major Mumbai-based firm, was the kingpin of the gang. The culprits had some 30 regular customers,” he said.
Samson’s gang was reportedly busted on the basis of a tip-off given by a college student who used to buy ganja from him. “Samson has confessed that bus drivers were his regular customers. The problem is that breath analysers do not detect smell of ganja. However the drivers could be highly intoxicated,” the police added.
The arrested were produced before the magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
