Narendra Modi vision houses for all by 2020
Meeting held with state government officials to check centrally funded projects

Hyderabad: Apart from Hyderabad, Guntur-Vijayawada-Tenali and Warangal-Kazipet are also being examined for inclusion in the list of smart cities, Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said.
He said that the population in the Hyderabad would reach “chaotic levels” in two decades, and the Centre plans to develop towns around the joint capital with education, employment and entertainment facilities.
Migration to Hyderabad had swelled to 32 per cent in 2014 against 17 per cent in 1951. Mr Naidu added that expecting a big capital like Hyderabad in residuary AP was not fair.
“However, a capital with all facilities will certainly be developed,” he said. Unlike earlier, he added, the Modi government would reach out to the states. He said that the Modi government vision of housing for all by 2020 was “challenging.”
For this, all the stake holders including corporates, the private and public sectors and other stake holders would be taken into confidence, he said. The minister on Saturday held a review meeting with state government officials to check on implementation of centrally funded projects.
With the support of the Union ministry of urban development, two programmes have been implemented – urban infrastructure and governance and urban infrastructure development scheme for small and medium towns.
Under these programmes, the cities will get another 1,037 buses with the Centre’s share being Rs 207.92 crore, and Phase 1 of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be completed by 2017, he said.
Under the National Urban Livelihood Mission, with an initial allocation of Rs 113.15 crore from the Centre, skill training programme to self-help groups and setting up of micro enterprises will be taken up, he said.
