Chandrababu Naidu says Andhra Pradesh left short of electricity

Centre had allotted power to both the states on the basis of consumption

Hyderabad: Chief Minister-in-waiting N Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that injustice was done to Seemandhra on the issue of power allocation. But Governor E.S.L. Narasimham maintained that that the Centre had allocated power to the two states based on actual consumption. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Mr Naidu said that during his visit to New Delhi, he had explained the condition of the residuary AP to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought justice.

He said that more power was allocated to Telangana and requested the Centre to fill the gap on power allocation to Seemandhra by supplying additional electricity from the National Thermal Power Corporation. Mr Naidu said the Centre had reacted positively to his suggestion.

Later, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan was asked about Mr Naidu’s allegation. Mr Narasimhan clarified that the Centre had allotted power to both the states on the basis of consumption. He explained that Seemandhra had river water for agriculture and the consumption of power was lesser, but in Telangana agriculture depends on borewells, so the power consumption is more.

He said that power allocation was done on the basis of Gadgil formula. The Governor said that the Chief Ministers of both states should discuss the issues and sort them out. He said that the both states have to set up more power plants to come out from the power crisis.
