3-year-old child hurt in freak escalator accident
KOCHI: In a freak incident at the Cochin international airport early on Saturday, a child was injured when its finger got stuck in a moving escalator. The three-and-a-half year old, part of a five member family which landed from Saudi Arabia by an Air Arabia flight around 3.30 am, was descending by the escalator.
It was left unattended when it sat on the step of the escalator while the elders stood on it. It began to fidget, then screamed as its hand got stuck on the side of the escalator and it struggled to remove it.
Security personnel rushed to the scene, the escalator was switched off and the child’s hand removed without serious injury having been incurred. Fire and rescue personnel, however, took the child in the airport ambulance to the Little Flower Hospital at Angamaly where it was given first aid.
The family, hailing from Thrissur, returned to the airport, relieved and grateful to the airport staff for their timely intervention.
