TNGO President Devi Prasad eyes Medak Lok Sabha seat
Hyderabad: Medak Lok Sabha seat, which was vacated by TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is now the cynosure of all eyes including TNGOs president Devi Prasad. Backed by the Telangana government employees, who played a key role in the Telangana movement, Mr Devi Prasad, who hails from Medak town, is keen to contest if Mr Rao okays his candidature.
In a related development, Lok Sabha secretary general accepted Mr Rao’s resignation as Medak Lok Sabha MP. The TRS chief had contested the Medak LS and Gajwel Assembly seats and won both of them. However, he quit the Medak LS seat after his party won majority in the Assembly polls.
TJAC chairman Professor Kodandaram was offered Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat, Mr Devi Prasad Medak Assembly seat besides other TNGOs leaders like Mr Vittal, but they pleaded their inability to contest the polls citing lack of finances besides other reasons.
After Mr Rao pulled off a spectacular win in the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls and the TRS to form the first Government in Telangana, the TRS and TNGOs leaders are now willing to contest since it’s likely to be a sure shot win. The victory of Telangana Gazetted Officers president, Mr Srinivas Goud, in Mahbubnagar Assembly constituency gave a morale boost to the government employees eyeing for tickets.
“I will go by the wishes of employees who are bringing pressure on me to contest,” Mr Devi Prasad said.
TNGOs are meeting on Sunday to formally move a resolution seeking TRS ticket to Mr Devi Prasad. However, Mr Rao had promised the Lok Sabha ticket to party leader and Sony Travels owner Prabhakar Reddy.
Meanwhile, TRS politburo member and retired IAS officer Dr K.V. Ramana Chary, Mr Sathyanarayana and Medak TRS chief are also eyeing the ticket. With decks cleared for bye elections, the race for the Medak ticket will certainly proves a headache for KCR.
