Enumeration forms ready to count Bangladeshi migrants
New Delhi: The new BJP government, has already kick-started the process of identifying illegal Bangladeshi migrants with sources disclosing that enumeration forms are already being printed for the extensive exercise.
Each person in Assam will have to fill up detailed forms which will have to be submitted to the local nodal officer and will be matched with the 1971 electoral rolls and NRC data. This is the first time that each person’s records will be checked from their roots, an official said.
Those names which fail to make it to the revised database will also have their names struck off the National Population Register, top sources disclosed.
With Assam suspected to have at least four lakh Bangladeshi migrants, the process of their identification through the exercise is expected to take around two to three years.
The Assam Assembly had passed a resolution in 2010 according to which the Centre was to update the NRC with the 1971 electoral rolls as the basis.
