Cop suicide case: Kin blame boss
Hyderabad: A day after 29-year-old police constable Ch. Kiran Kumar committed suicide, his friends alleged that it was due to the harassment of inspector N. Lakshmi Narayana. They said Kiran, a constable of the Chatrinaka police station, was depressed as he was not being granted leaves. He was also under immense pressure due to over-time duty. At times, he worked for days at a stretch without a break.
His friends said Kiran was depressed as he was not allowed to take leave when he wanted. “Whenever we asked him to join us for a party or come along for any occasion, he refused. He would say that his superior would not grant him any leave. He would also say that he was unable to take the harassment and wanted to quit the job. Kiran had said similar things to his colleagues as well,” said Elijah, one of Kiran’s closest friends.
Mr Elijah, who has known Kiran since their time together at the Wesley College, said, “I recently called him for a spiritual event, but he didn’t turn up. Had he come there, I would have tried to get him out of depression.” Meanwhile, Kiran’s family has decided to lodge a complaint alleging harassment leading to the suicide. “We spoke to his friends and colleagues and they told us that he exhibited symptoms of depression. He had no issues at home and a day before his death he had a good time with the family. A love affair cannot be the reason. We suspect harassment could also be a reason for the suicide. We will lodge a complaint in a couple of days seeking a probe into his death,” said Rajesh, Kiran’s brother-in-law.
However, when contacted, the Chatrinaka cops denied the allegations. For now, they have registered a suspicious death case and said it can be altered if the family lodged a complaint. The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital and was handed over to the family after an autopsy.
