'Bandh' successful in Telangana, normal life hit in city

TRS activists took to the streets and staged a sit-in in all the 10 districts

Hyderabad: The Telangana bandh called by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti against Polavaram Ordinance ended successfully without any untoward incidents being reported.

The TRS activists took to the streets and staged a sit-in in all the 10 districts, affecting normal life.

RTC buses were confined to the depots leaving commuters stranded at the MGBS, Jubilee Bus Stand, among others. Bus services from Hyderabad were cancelled to almost all the destinations in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

All businesses, offices and stores also remained shut and the ones that were not, were forcibly shut by the TRS workers. Bandh was partially observed in Hyderabad, with autos plying.

RTC officials in the district had suspended all the rural and long-distance services due to the bandh call.

Maharashtra and Karnataka state transport service buses were also halted in the district due to the bandh.

In Warangal, TRS MLA Konda Surekha staged a protest at the RTC depot along with party activists.

In Khammam district, the TRS, the CPI, the CPM and the New Democracy leaders along with activists staged a protest at the RTC bus stop against the ordinance, while at the Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Adilabad, Karimnagar, and Rangareddy bus stops, the TRS leaders prevented buses from coming out of the depots.

Meanwhile, Unrelenting Telangana Rashtra Samiti has decided to move the Supreme Court against the Modi government Ordinance, merging seven mandals in Khammam to be submerged in Polavaram irrigation project with AP.

A TRS delegation met President Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi and submitted a memorandum opposing the Ordinance and sought its withdrawal.

“With Parliament Session just few days away, it’s wrong on the part of Modi government to issue Ordinance post haste. We will move the Supreme Court against the ordinance,” Mr Vinod Kumar, MP, said.
