Namitha mobbed, escapes unhurt in stage collapse
Chennai: Buxom actress Namitha, who is considered lucky when it comes to shop openings especially down south, was caught in a stage collapse after being mobbed at a temple festival.
Namitha was the chief guest along with actor/director Bhagyaraj at the inaugural day of a temple festival in Reddiapatti near Namakkal in Salem. About 10,000 people had gathered there to get a glimpse of the glam babe.
Namitha reached the venue to rousing applause from the crowd. Even as she settled down on the make-shift dais and waved her hands in acknowledgement of the crowd’s cheers, hundreds of men went berserk and ran towards her, breaking barricades in a bid to get close to her.
Reportedly, unable to withstand the huge load, the stage collapsed and everyone including Namitha was trapped inside. A few people from the crowd immediately alerted the ambulance services.
However, the organisers took the actress to a safe place and she was unhurt except for a few bruises. When DC contacted Namitha she was still in a state of shock.
“Yes, that happened near Namakkal. Even though I was given enough security, somehow fans managed to break the barricades and cross over onto the stage. It was an unimaginable crowd, and hence the stage couldn’t take the load and it collapsed. My manager John and some guards were quick on their feet and they managed to pull me out. After a little while at a place away from the crowds, we managed to get to our car and left,” says Namitha.
She expressed concern about others who were caught in the mishap.
“While I was still shaken from the incident, my thoughts were about the safety of the people and kids who were still trapped. I spoke to the organisers after 30 minutes and they told me that no one was seriously injured.”
