Race for BJP chief post intensifies

Amit Shah, JP Nadda and Om Mathur's names are doing the rounds for the post of BJP president

New Delhi/Jaipur: Race for change of guard has intensified in the BJP. After names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s close aide and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Amit Shah and general secretary J.P. Nadda, name of party’s Gujarat in-charge and former sangh pracharak Om Mathur has started doing the round in the party circle for the top post.

Mr Mathur, a Rajya Sabha MP, is considered as anti-Vasundhara Raje but shares a good rapport with Mr Modi. BJP chief Rajnath Singh has been included in the Cabinet.

Sources disclosed that the RSS is considering other names also for the top post in the saffron party. Speculation is also rife that the BJP could project Mr Shah as its chief ministerial candidate for the 2017 Assembly elections.

Mr Singh on Wednesday met RSS supremo Mohan Bhagwat where the issue of next party chief was discussed. In the wake of Modi government facing criticism over one of his minister’s remarks on the Article 370, the issue was also discussed between the sangh parivar leaders, said sources.
