Hyderabad power demand to shoot up
Hyderabad: Hyderabad, the common capital of Telangana and the residual Andhra Pradesh, has a huge power demand, growing roughly at 20 per cent per year. The rate of growth of power demand is almost double, when compared to the rest of the state.
Several circles in the city are putting up new transformers or replacing the old ones to prepare for additional load. However, these may not be enough to meet the requirement. While around 300 new transformers are being installed, the actual need might be for 1,000 transformers, said officials.
The upmarket Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and the newer residential areas, including the ones coming up around the ORR, are the biggest energy consuming areas now.
Moreover, with double number of state offices operating form the city, the power demand is expected to go up further.
Going by the figures of the last three years, the state (before bifurcation) has been seeing a 10 per cent increase in power demand. “The city, especially several high density residential areas, however, has seen much higher demand,” added the official.
