ESL Narasimhan to be both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor

The decision was taken by the outgoing government

Hyderabad: AP Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan will be the Governor of Telangana too after bifurcation on June 2.

The Constitution does allow appointing a person as Governor of more than one state. A communiqué issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday stated, “President has been pleased to appoint E.S.L. Narasimhan, Governor of AP, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Telangana, in addition to his own duties, until a permanent arrangement is made. The above appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

In fact, the decision to appoint Mr Narasimhan as the Governor of Telangana in addition to AP was taken by the outgoing Manmohan Singh government, but the same had not been cleared by Rashtrapati Bhavan.

However, the Narendra Modi government cleared the decision on Tuesday, paving the way for the President to act on it.
