Amit Shah, Jagat Prakash Nadda in race to be BJP president

Sources hinting a 'surprise name' if the RSS take the issue in its hand

New Delhi: As BJP top brass, including its president Rajnath Singh, have been included in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet, speculations have begun in the party circle as who will succeed Mr Singh.

Mr Modi’s close aide Amit Shah and national general secretary J.P. Nadda are the two names doing the round in the party circle for the post. Sources however, disclosed there could also be a “surprise name” if the RSS decides to take the issue in its hand.

Also, party veteran L.K. Advani, it was learnt, would be asked to play the role of saffron party’s mentor and guide. Mr Advani who was kept out of Mr Modi’s Cabinet due to the “age bar” , sources disclosed, was suggested the Lok Sabha Speaker’s post but he had refused.

Speculation is rife that Mr Shah, who is BJP’s incharge for Uttar Pradesh, could be accommodated in Modi government when the Prime Minister decides to expand his Cabinet. In that case, Mr Nadda could be the BJP president.
