On May 26, Modi and Sharif had an emotional conversation about their mothers

New Delhi: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart shared more than just discussions on bilateral ties during the latter’s visit to India.

The newly-elected PM surprised Sharif with a gift for his mother -- a beautiful shawl.

On May 26, the two leaders had a very emotional conversation about their mothers after the much-anticipated swearing-in ceremony held in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The gift had Sharif’s daughter Maryam in awe of the leader.

"Thank u v much PM @narendramodi for the beautiful shawl for my grandmother. My father personally delivered it to her," she wrote on the micro-blogging site, Twitter. She attached a photograph of the shawl along with her comment.

The Pakistani Prime Minister flew back home this evening after a two-day stay in India. Sharif held a 50-minute meeting with Modi where he discussed issues concerning both countries including 26/11 and the recent attack on an Indian consulate in Afghanistan.

Modi had also tweeted on Monday evening, “Earlier in the evening in my conversation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif he shared some very emotional things...Nawaz Sharif ji told me that he stays in Islamabad but goes to meet his Mother once in a week."

"This time when he was eating with his Mother he saw visuals on TV of my Mother offering me sweets...The visuals touched both Nawaz Sharif ji & his Mother. He told me that after seeing the visuals his Mother got very emotional," Mr Modi tweeted.
