5,000 supernumerary seats in engineering, diploma available
Bengaluru: State higher education minister R.V. Deshpande informed that 5,000 free seats (supernumerary seats) are available in engineering and diploma colleges of the state and these will be filled through the newly-introduced slab system. Releasing the CET results 2014 on Tuesday, Mr. Deshpande informed that supernumerary seats are free seats and there will not be any fee for these seats except the exam fee. “Those below the parental annual income of Rs1 lakh would be given first priority while filling these seats. Next, for those with annual parental income of between Rs 1 and 2 lakhs, there will be six slabs,” he informed.
He also said us that that the state government will bear the expenses of the top 5 rank students from all streams if they select seats in CET in their respective streams. He added that the state minority development corporation will bear the fees of students from minority communities and the money will be directly released to KEA. “These students should repay the amount after completing their studies,” he informed. He also announced that the state government will do its best to ensure total transparency in the CET process and students need not worry. “There will not be any delay in releasing the engineering seat matrix as AICTE expected to announce the college course-wise details by May 31,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, State Medical Education Minister Mr. Sharan Prakash Patil informed us that there will not be any change in the minority status of any of the medical colleges in the state following a HC stay order on a state government decision. “One new medical college is coming up in the private sector while the fate of the proposed six new medical colleges would be decided by the MCI on June 3. We are trying our best to get permission for all the new colleges. The state government is also trying to get more seats in the existing colleges and a clear picture would be available on June 3,” he explained.
