Drunk father kills two kids, consumes poison
Hyderabad: A man, in an inebriated state, allegedly murdered his two children at his house at Suraram Colony in Dundigal. The victims, K. Rajasree, 9, and 10-year-old K. Rakesh were found dead on Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday morning, 35-year-old K. Sampath Kumar, the children’s father, stepped out of his house and started shouting that his kids were dead. This caught his neighbours’ attention.
Dundigal police suspects that Sampath had given poison-laced soft drinks to his children. Cops are also verifying if the kids were strangled after being poisoned. “He could have committed the murders in these two possible ways. We need to wait for the post mortem report to confirm the cause of death,” said Dundigal sub-inspector R. Vidya Sagar.
Sampath, a truck driver, who fainted after being roughed up by the locals, was shifted to Gandhi hospital. The doctors later told police that Sampath had also consumed poison by mixing it with his drinks.
The kids, who had been living with their uncle at Borabanda ever since their mother died one-and-half-years ago, had come to Sampath’s house for few days during the summer vacation. They were to return on Tuesday morning.
Their grandmother and uncle were reluctant to send the kids with Sampath because of his violent behaviour. They also came to know that Sampath had taken one of Rajasree’s ornaments. However, he had pleaded with them and had convinced them that he would take care of the kids.
“Ten days ago, he came to our house and took the kids. We were worried, but he promised to send them back on Tuesday. We had been checking on the children frequently by talking to them over the phone. On Monday evening, when my mother talked to the kids, they seemed happy and said they would be with us the next morning,” said G. Ramprasad, the victims' uncle. He believes that his sister K. Lakshmi was also murdered.
Dundigal police has now booked a case for murder under IPC Section 302 against Sampath. He would be arrested after he is discharged from the hospital, said the cops.
