Telugu Desam Party MPs hopeful of getting birth in Modi cabinet

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, a native of TN, has been a strong votary of Telangana

Hyderabad: According to a TDP MP who doesn’t wish to be quoted, “We will be getting a key portfolio in another one month besides getting two more Cabinet berths,” he said. TDP MP Sujana Chowdary said, “We are not interested in any particular portfolio, we have been assured of largescale Central assistance in the years to come. The TDP - BJP tie-up is not just confined to this term, it is at least for two more decades.”

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman, though a native of Tamil Nadu, has been a strong votary of Telangana statehood from the beginning, though her husband is a strong integrationist from Seemandhra. She is expected to get the commerce portfolio, and could be of immense help for both the states which are dependant on exports of agriculture, marine and mineral produce.

“Hyderabad is my ‘Attagari illu’ (in-laws’s place). Though I am a born Tamil, I shifted to Hyderabad in 1991 after my marriage,” she told this correspondent. “I don’t know which portfolio I will get but I will do justice to both the states.”

BJP spokesperosn Prakash Javadekar, a native of Pune, too had his links with the state, being the BJP incharge for the undivided state. He was associated with talks with the Telugu Desam Party for the pre-poll alliance. For some time, there was talk that he could be fielded by the BJP from Nizamabad, or some seat in Telangana.
