First meeting of Narendra Modi's cabinet scheduled today
New Delhi: The first Cabinet meeting of the Narendra Modi Government will be held on Tuesday here primarily as a familiarisation exercise on major issues like the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Sources said it would be mostly a formal meeting of the Cabinet and issues related to bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh would be discussed. One of the major agenda before the incoming cabinet is to revoke President’s rule in Andhra Pradesh on June 1 so that K Chandrashekar Rao can be sworn in on June 2 as Chief Minister of Telangana.
Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu is expected to take oath as Chief Minister of Seemandhra on June 8 in Guntur. There is no clarity, however, whether a decision on this would be taken in Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting. Another item before the Cabinet is to issue an ordinance to transfer 200-odd villages from Telangana to Seemandhra to facilitate the construction of the Polavaram dam.
