Modi takes to twitter diplomacy

Modi thanked leaders of SAARC nations and Mauritius for attending his swearing in ceremony

New Delhi: Continuing with his diplomatic outreach on Sunday, Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi said the presence of SAARC leaders and the PM of Mauritius will make his oath-taking more memorable.

The PM-designate tweeted, “Great to have leaders from SAARC nations and Mauritius join us during the ceremony. Their presence will make the occasion more memorable.”
In another tweeet, Mr Modi welcomed the release of Indian fishermen by both Pakistan and Sri Lanka on the eve of his swearing-in.

He wrote, “I welcome the step by Sri Lanka and Pakistan to release our fishermen. I welcome our fishermen brothers back home.”

On Sunday, SAARC leaders began gathering in the Capital for Monday's swearing-in with the arrival of the speaker of the Bangladesh parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay.

The remaining six leaders, among them Pak PM Nawaz Sharif, Afghan president Hamind Karzai and Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa arrive here tomorrow.

The eight foreign leaders attending Mr Modi’s swearing-in will also take part in a small ‘private dinner’ to be hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee after the swearing-in. Mr Modi and some members of his Cabinet members will also be present in the dinner.
