Flats in urban housing scheme remain vacant
Hyderabad: Thousands of houses built under the JNNURM housing scheme are lying vacant, leading to problems like theft and vandalism. The concerned departments have no means to arrange security and it is difficult to guard the premises. The problems came to light on Saturday during a joint meeting with the GHMC and the Hyderabad collector.
As per the report, the delay in clearing the final bills for the completed works is leading to legal complications. Some houses have been occupied illegally without payment in colonies like Patelnagar (160), Chatrapati Shivaji Nagar (167), Hamali Basthi (50 out of 160).
In some colonies like Kurmalguda, the beneficiary lists are yet to be finalised. Since beneficiary lists are a precursor to flat allotment, there is inordinate delay in allotment as well. The meeting came to the conclusion that it is preferable to complete allotments in a few colonies instead of allotting some houses in each colony.
GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said, “Since many beneficiaries have not paid their contributions due to problems with bankers the GHMC is planning to conduct a meeting with bankers to resolve issues pertaining to loans. Innovative schemes will be introduced so that payments can be completed in a phased manner. Special drives will be held to motivate beneficiaries.”
The Hyderabad collector has been asked to earmark 5,610 houses for Nala encroachers. Houses will also be set apart for 2,000 people as per the request of the Rashtra Dalitha Social Workers Sangham.
