Defensive start for Indian hockey side

The players worked on their defence inside the 25-yard circle

New Delhi: The India hockey team got down to business ahead of the 2014 FIH World Cup with a two-hour practice session in the Hague, Holland, on Friday, according to information received here.

The players worked on their defence inside the 25-yard circle, and on decision making, goal scoring and penalty corners under the watchful eyes of high performance director Roelant Oltmans at the Klein Zwitserland Club.

The Indians will play the first of two practice matches against Argentina XI in Kyocera on Sunday.

“The focus was to get used to the surface. The atmosphere in the group is good and everyone is fully focused,” Oltmans said, adding “We all feel the competition is close now but we will stay relaxed and focused on the first match without the pressure getting on to us.”

Defender V.R. Raghunath said that the team would try and take it one game at a time. “We have worked a lot in improving our defence and penalty corner conversions.”
