Narendra Modi peravai rattles Lotus parivar in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: The BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu are in a bit of a quandary after a Modi fan club popped up here on Saturday with a huge rally of its women members to conduct poojas in an Amman temple for the well-being of the PM-designate.
State organiser N.R. Balamurugan of the ‘India Desiya Munnetra Modi Peravai’ told Deccan Chronicle that his outfit “is very much part of the BJP” and had been functioning for the last two years as “a platform for the true followers of Narendra Modiji.”
But the BJP leaders insist that the peravai does not have any official sanction and is not part of the saffron umbrella. “We do not recognise this peravai. They have propped up something just to misuse Modi’s name for selfish purposes. We will complain to our central headquarters,” said BJP’s Central Chennai district president M. Jaishankar.
“We have been active long before this poll victory. Our only agenda is to propagate the good thoughts and deeds of Modiji. Thousands of our women members participated in Saturday’s rally that started at the Villivakkam bus stand and culminated in the Amman temple for special poojas for our leader,” said the peravai’s women wing president M. G. Santhakumari.
However, it was evident from the Villivakkam rally that the peravai had nothing to do with the BJP; for, the limping saffron parivar in the city would not have pulled off something as robust as this.
