‘I have been strong ’, Kangna Ranaut

Kangna says she doesn’t get affected by successes and failures

Mumbai: Unfazed and unperturbed by the lukewarm response to her film Revolver Rani, Kangna is continuing to bask in the glory of her new found stardom. Right from the onset of her career, Kangna has always dared to be different. Her journey in films has seen many highs and lows, but Kangna is gearing up for a fresh new beginning. She’s also making an effort to venture into new things.

“I’ll soon be leaving for New York to complete a course in screenplay. It was supposed to happen last year, but my schedule was so packed that I had to delay it by a year. I’m glad it’s working out now,” Kangna says.

While on the career front she’s on a high, her personal life seems to be pretty low key. She reveals that she’s single but not yet ready to mingle.

“Right now I’m not ready to be in a relationship. My focus is very clear and I wouldn’t want any distraction at this point. Honestly, I can look after myself. I’m an independent girl. Yes, like every girl, I might eventually feel the need of a companion, but right now I’m happy in my own space.”
Having spent so many years in the industry, without any godfather, one wonders from where does she derive that kind of confidence. “I’ve always been a very strong girl. My grit and determination are a part of my upbringing. Despite being a girl, I have always been given the liberty to make my own decisions.”

A certain section of the industry feels that Kangna has been following in Aamir Khan’s footsteps. Apparently, she has turned down offers to attend award functions. “I wish people would stop drawing comparisons,” says an exasperated Kangna.

She adds, “I didn’t let the applause for Queen go to my head and neither was I bogged down by the lukewarm response to Revolver Rani. I have the sensibility to understand that every day is different and so is every film. It will hurt me if people criticise my performance. So far, I haven’t received any negative reviews for my performance. Acceptance by the critics is my biggest award and reward. I don’t have rigid dos and don’ts in life. For now, I feel I’m in a happy space. Awards do give us an additional boost. But currently, my focus is on reaching the next level as a performer.”

Kangna has always made news for replacing other actresses in their films. After replacing Vidya Balan in Shootout At Wadala, and following it up with the success of Queen, Kangna has become the top choice of most filmmakers. “I feel the phrase ‘replacing other actors is’ over-hyped. No actor can possibly do every film that comes his or her way. There have been films that I couldn’t do. Similarly some films came my way that others couldn’t do. I don’t celebrate such situations. There is no reason to do that,” she smiles.

Besides her screenplay course in New York, Kangna is also gearing up for the sequel of Tanu Weds Manu, a film, she has always said is extremely close to her heart. “I love all the films that I’ve done till date but there are a few films that are very close to me. Woh Lamhe, Queen and Tanu Weds Manu. We’ve been working on the script for over a year and finally things are in place,” she says.

Kangna adds, “I am happy looking forward to my future projects. Happiness is your call. I chose to be a happy person and that reflects in my personality.”
