It’s a good weekend for the movie industry
Mumbai: Finally, the weekend just gone by saw crowds thronging the theatres across the country for the new releases Heropanti and Kochadaiiyan.
What makes these releases special is that one features debutants (Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon) and the other, a living legend (Rajinikanth). With both these films doing brisk business at the box office, it was good news for the trade as well as the industry.
The enhanced buzz around Heropanti, especially in the last couple of weeks, ensured that a decent start was pretty much on the cards. However an opening in the range of 50-60 per cent is quite good, considering that it was Tiger and Kriti’s first film. What seems to have worked for this Sabbir Khan-directed venture is the entertainment quotient it offered.
The audience lapped it up, which resulted in a good figure. With this, producer Sajid Nadiadwala now has three successes to his name this year, after Highway and 2 States.
As for Rajinikanth, he made sure that Kochadaiiyaan turned out to be somewhat of a success, though only in some parts of the South. Even though its Hindi version didn’t do much business, collections in the Southern territories have been decent.
While one waits for the official collections to be declared by Eros, it is expected that the biggie might have collected a good amount in all languages, but the maximum moolah would be coming from the Tamil version.
