Hyundai India recalls 2,437 units of Santa Fe SUV

The recall has been initiated to replace a stop lamp switch

New Delhi: Hyundai Motor India is recalling 2,437 units of its sports utility vehicle Santa Fe to replace a faulty stop lamp switch. "Hyundai Motor India will voluntarily recall 2,437 number of Santa Fe vehicles of the 2011 model year in India for the manufacturing period June 26, 2011, to September 26, 2013," the Indian unit of the South Korean company said in a statement.

The recall has been initiated to replace a stop lamp switch due to a potential malfunction. The switch is mounted near the brake-pedal mechanism and activated when the pedal is depressed and released, the company said. Affected Santa Fe owners will be notified in a phased manner to bring in their vehicles to authorised Hyundai dealers for replacement of the part, the company said. Car companies have been pro-active in recalling vehicles in cases of safety issues since industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers initiated a voluntary recall policy in 2012.

Honda Cars India Ltd recalled 31,226 units of select variants of the Amaze compact sedan and Brio hatchback this month to inspect them for a possible brake system defect. Earlier, Toyota Kirloskar Motor recalled 44,989 units of multi-purpose vehicle Innova manufactured between February 2005 and December 2008 in India to rectify a faulty cable on the steering wheel. General Motors India last year recalled 1.14 lakh units of its multi-purpose vehicle Chevrolet Tavera manufactured between 2005 and 2013 to address emissions and specification issues. It is the biggest recall in India till date.
