Two Andhra Pradesh students get closer to Everest peak

Once the students cross the 'death zone' they will reach the peak

Hyderabad: Two students from AP Social Welfare Residential Schools are all set to script history by scaling the Mount Everest on May 26.

Malavath Purna, 13, and 18-year-old Sadhanapalli Anand Kumar reached Camp 2, which is at an altitude of 24,750 feet, on Friday at 9.30 am. Purna, if she reaches the top, will be the youngest female mountaineer to scale the peak.

According to Dr R.S. Praveen Kumar, secretary, APSWREI Society, both the students are doing well and will be heading towards the ‘Death Zone’ with 47 other mountaineers from China, Germany and Tibet. He said the trek through Death Zone will be dangerous, but once they cross it, they are sure to reach the peak.
